This is a prototype to a platform game I've been working on. Pretty much all of the game sprite have been pilfered from old NES games (Castlevania, Willow, Zelda, etc.). The overall idea behind the building this was to familiarize myself with game development in flash enough to eventually design, animate, program, and construct an arcade style kiosk.

I've learned quite a bit working on this ... although looking at the game now there's a lot of room for improvement.

Holy crap, I'm talkative. I noticed that his sprite floats slightly above the floor, and on some mid-air platforms, your dive "attack" can go right thru it, making you fall to your death. These sections of platform appear normal, but I noticed you sink into it if it's a platform you can kill yourself on.

By the way, where'd you get the music?

Yeah, there are a lot of bugs with the character/platforms hit test. They've all been addressed and fixed in the new game I've been working on.

I think all of the audio was pilfered from either Flash Kit and Mega Man 5.

Give me the power to sword my foes, more baddies, more levels, and bosses, and you have an awesome game. It's ok by itself, but an upgraded version would ROCK!

Oh, I know where you got the fairy and bat, but which games did the hero, wolf, fire, and other items come from?

Yeah, this game definitely could use some love. I've been working on another platform game in Flash [link] so hopefully it'll be a noticeable improvement on this one.

The hero and fire came from the Willow NES game and can't remember where all of the items came from.

By the way, what part of Willow did the hero come from? Is he the main character, or an enemy? Or an npc?

I can't find any images from Willow, so I'm left clueless :/

By the way, why not use the death animation when he dies by running out of hp?

Doh! I could have sworn I looked for sprites on that site! I guess I didn't look hard enough. Or maybe I only checked "The Spriter's Resource".

I think you should complete both games. Swordmaster looks like it has the potential to be a game as epic as legend of zelda, and your othe game looks like it could be a cool cyberspace shooter if you keep the current background and add enemies. Although it could be a sweet metroid game, too.

Pretty much the goal is to build an arcade cabinet so I wouldn't rule out both being finished at some point ... it's more a matter of finding the time to do so.

Thanks. Yeah I guess it could use a knight with a giant ax or a mutant lizard to fight at the end.

Thanks, I'm glad that you liked it.

I guess the speed drop is in the game because originally the game character was going to be able to attack by stabbing things and throwing his sword, but I got lazy and never finished making the attacks.

The highest possible score in this game is 175,500. Good game though.

I'm glad you liked it.

175,500 ... I never knew. I suppose it would have been a lot cooler if the high score had somekind of significant meaning ... other than that's how many turkeys, bread and whatnot were put on the screen.

Indeed, I did.

That's for only three levels that you did and I believe that 175,500 is the highest that you can go without losing a life.

Where the hell were all of these good ideas when I was making the damned thing?

Sword spinner rims ... I like the cut of your jib ... and then you can use them as somekind of super powerup, kill everything on the screen, weapon later in the game.

Yeah, first thing to improve upon would be some sort of sword attack.

Before I got lazy and called the game done I was going to add little cuddly animal sprites that would explode when you walked over them. I guess that's one for the special edition.

Pretty good job on the graphics. I think it's sadly ironic the name of the game is "Swordmaster" and there is apparently no way possible to attack the mutant plague rats and bats with that heavy looking sword he's carrying around.

It has a good feel to it, but not enough killing. Plus, the fairies should be naked just for the hell of it.

I agree, killing and nudity makes everything better ... now if only there were a way to add monster trucks to the equation.

Naturally, the game ends in a bonus stage where the knight drives a magical monster truck and crushes hundreds of naked faries to death under it's mighty wheels.
